Abandonment In Adoptees
Betty Jean Lifton says in Journey of the Adopted Child that adopted children who do not have access to their heritage are prone to splitting in their personality that makes them keep anger repressed and explode with rage at events that do not warrant such expression, such as abandoning of adoptive parents or friends. I agree with this and have experienced it. Abandonment is my key word in life, I am always on alert for it. She says that the adoptee may feel they are in danger for their life if the adoptive parents give them a warning of leaving them if they do not shape up their behavior, because the last time they were left it was a matter of survival. We need to pay attention to this issue more.
