New Age Spirituality, and Religion
I just realized that all the spiritual teachers I have been listening to, such as Teal Swan, believe the same thing that we do. She just said in her video Find Your Subconscious Core Life Commitment - Teal Swan that our core life commitments, what we truly want inside, is what will motivate us so if you have a different conscious commitment than your subconscious core one, you will have a lot of conflict in your life and won't be happy. For example, if someone has a core life commitment of being free, but has a job that constricts him, he will not fully put his energy into it and have unhappiness from it. Or with a spouse- if one is not fully committed to the relationship and is instead committed to himself, they will have hell in their marriage. She says that in order to make sure you are aligning your life commitment with the one you truly want to have, a person needs to look deep inside himself and ask what it is they really are committed to.
Also, new age spiritualism believes that we manifest our lives, based on our inner vibration. Religion says this too, in the statement that whatever a person wants in his heart is what G-d will give him. Therefore, we have to really know ourselves and what we want in order to know which direction we are headed.
This is all very interesting to me because in religion, we are constantly looking to change our "bad" tendencies towards serving G-d, and a person has to constantly renew his personal relationship with G-d. This means that every day, he has to consciously understand what he feels and renew his commitment to the almighty, because his human tendencies causes him to waver. Since it is human nature, being on the planet with all its' imperfections causes humans to lose sight of who they are, and what they ultimately want. The way we grow up, many times, causes us to fall into uncertainty about who we are and do things out of alignment with G-d's will. No one said being religious is easy, but it is not an all or nothing way, or extreme. It is applying knowledge you learn to better your character. I do not like saying things like that because it makes me feel like I cannot ever become good, as was drilled into me every time I got in trouble in school for "not following rules." I guess I am a bit screwed up in this way, having the belief that I can not rise to be anything since I made little mistakes here and there. The narcissistic teachers did this- with their not being able to treat me the way I needed by encouragement and mentoring positively. So now I have an even lower self-esteem than how I started in their school, and life is a never-ending battle of trying to believe in myself to be able to reach any level. I still feel incapable and low, and when I do anything good I beat myself up that it's not enough and it'll never be good. And then I have less will to try, and feel like giving up would make life more enjoyable and painless. But then I remind myself that it is not all or nothing, that G-D understands and He sees every deed I do, whether it be big or seemingly small. And that is what keeps me going.
All the new age spiritualism that people talk about rings very true to the religion I practice, and this amazes me. Such as the meditation I saw, about stating your intention for the day and clearing your energy in the morning. This is what we do also, by praying and giving G-d all of our worries and issues. we let ourselves know that He is taking care of it all, and that He loves us. This has a similar effect as the meditation. And at night, before sleep, we also say a prayer to clear our negative energies that we caused by hurting ourselves or others, and not doing G-d's will. This is similar to the practice that the spiritual community advocates of clearing all the interactions you had with others and giving them back their energy, and telling yourself that you did your best and forgive yourself for the bad you did.
The difference of the new age spiritualism is that they believe many times that the main goal in life is to love yourself, and that is the ends to all. This conflicts with religion in that the main goal is to follow G-d, and make your will match His. It is true that He cares about you and therefore you MUST care about yourself, but at the same time work towards matching what He wants. This helps you live more joyfully because the way G-d wants is the best obviously because He created you and therefore He knows you best. He knows where you are at, though, and if you truly belief in Him, you will trust that He understands. Therefore, it is a lifetime job, and religion is NOT a comfort that you sink into knowing that you are good in life. We still have to work hard to perfect ourselves. It is a practice and not a "lifestyle."
